[rant] I shaded this pic with smooth shading originally… but it looked too off, so I reshaded it in celshading and compared. This is the first time I’ve ever completely recoloured a picture out of will, and I can kind of see the different effects on the picture. I’ve always been wanting to smooth shade, and smooth shade everything better and eventually know how to shade realistically with proper lighting and colourizing. However my drawing style is still the… off anime side of drawing, so the shading style never really matched the drawing style and a lot of my pictures turned out really scary (especially the face). I’ve always been in denial that my style doesn’t fit, but it’s time that I realize that it can’t be fixed. 2D drawings and 3D colourings don’t mix… I have to change one for another. but which!! *cries*[/rant]

I’m sure that you could do both styles and execute them well if you practice at them enough to get more comfortable *would love to see more softly-colored, non-cell shaded works from you* and it is quite possible to get something like 3D style shading and colors… to me, Hyung Tae Kim is a fine example of doing that- putting 3D-like depth into his 2D CG works~
-by the way… I love the style for the preview image in this entry, it makes me think fondly of the texture of crumpled paper~

i think your softshading method is more of your internationally recognized style, many people admire your CG because of that. stick to softshading :D

I don’t think your pics are scary O_o
I’ve seen some really nice 3d shaded art that are quite anime-ish drawn =P maybe you can pratice that kind of stuff?I love your softshading and your cellshading ^^
you can try sfot-cellshading instead maybe? =P

thank you quite stalker xD

I think you could do a mixture of both. I absolutely LOVE your soft shading and I think it blends nicely with your style. I like seeing your cell shaded pics also. But my absolute favs are the soft shaded ones. So I’d be sad if you totally gave up soft shading..but hey, you can do whatever you want ^^.

I actually think your style looks nice with both. It’s hard to find a balance like you said though because your style is more anime influenced. I think my style is slowly creeping towards it too because I love coloring large exspressive eyes but I can’t do that if I draw them realistic ^^;;;. It’s a hard choice to make. I love your art either way but with your clean lineart it really shines with cell shading. And it looks like you have a texture over the color in the preview :0! That looks really sweet. You should keep it if it wasn’t inentional. I’m trying myself to get the hang of cel shading and I actually look to your work for pointers ^__^. I say keep doing what you’re doing. You’ll find the right flow when it’s time. Hi by the way, I’m a quiet stalker of yours over on dA and I love Black Bird.
