{ Lakin take 2 }
Posted on: Saturday, August 8, 2009

Make up drawing for Lakin whose file I lost! I tried pretty hard to use a much more vibrant colour palette for this pic without relying on built in PS functions, and I think I tried too hard because my eyes kinda hurt looking at all the bright colours like every other time when I tried to do this LOL. I like to know I can do it, and it fits the mood for this piece too, but I’m just meant for dull colours in general :[

  1. Thank you for all the advice ! I will try to keep those in mind for the next piece

    Okay so I pretty much stalk your blog and whatnot, but when I saw this piece, I went “…Oooe.” In a surprised and delighted sort of way. That should be, like, a good indication haha. I do like this piece, though I agree with “starshock” in that my eyes do kind of wander because the foreground isn’t as vibrant as the background and so my eyes kind of go GAHH WHAT.
    But I especially like the ribbons; it gives the whole piece more motion aside from that she’s pretty much flying.
    Anyway, good stuff, and I really do like your brighter palette.

    Hey Shilin!
    Personally, it doesn’t matter if you’re using saturated or desaturated color palettes for your works. However, it’s important to realize the importance of depth between the foreground, middle ground and background planes. Just be careful when you choose your colors for your background, if they’re more saturated/colorful than the character themselves, the viewer’s eye will become confused and wander too much all over your picture. They’re basically trying to rest their eyes on a focal point but end up becoming restless because of how the fore and background planes’re playing mind games on them.
    Anywho, great marksmanship as always~

    It’s looking freaking ass amazing, FUCKKK now I wish you screwed up mine so I got a second one LOL

    And I think the only bright colors are really mostly just the clouds~ haha

    btw atm its kind of hard to tell if the falcon is back of her or in front. The hood comes in front of it so it looks like its front of it but atm the depth perception is kind of off. maybe when you shade it more! It could be just that the falcon’s back is right next to the hunter; maybe if you overlapped it more?

    IM SO JELOUS ATM
