Rage

I guess I didn’t get to post 10 wips but here’s 4 more detail shots for the finished image! It’s now up in the gallery :D

I would be happy about it except I’m annoyed by EVERYTHING that’s been happening. I haven’t slept well for like a week due to stupid occurrences at night, people making stupid comments, and the DA upload system being dumb causing me to lose like half a day of self promotion for something I worked so hard on. I’m pretty begrudging when it comes to shit like this so now I feel like I must paint something else to make up for my misfortune, but I must get working on actual work before that ]: I hate the feeling on giving up unfinished business

But onto the pic itself! while drawing it I thought I would write a little story (that has nothing to do with Blackbird) to go along with the image, but in the end my inability to write and the fact that the focus of the story was like a tangent to the focus of the illustration caused me to scrap it. The story went something like, once upon a time there was an awesome city filled with awesome people who thought they were so awesome, that they could overthrow the gods. The gods finally got mad and sent someone down, and she wiped out the area from the map and guarded it forever and ever to remind humans of their humiliation and defeat.

I’m switching to SAI for my super secret manga project because photoshop lineart is balls. I drew half a speech balloon before becoming enraged with the brush quality… although SAI is much better, it still has no manga texture to it, at this stage anyways. I think it’s partially because of how I draw, too, but I’ll have to get around it because there’s no way I can draw this project traditionally ): At least digital illustration is very forgiving; I’ve already flipped the canvas 4-5 times and free transformed so many bodyparts lol

And here’s some musiiiccccc long post is long

time to go unfluff that guy’s hairrrrr

thank you for conveniently finishing that pic in time for my birthday. *_* the painting style is gorgeous. Though I feel like the top part of the bg seems too empty–colour is too uniform from top-to-bottom of bg/not enough colour gradient and unbalances the composition a bit. But it could also be my screen isn't picking up the contrast.

    • HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY

and it is a solid colour and it's like impossibly hard to change with how I painted it lmfao. The gradient idea is cool though so I will try to see if I can pull it off LOL

  • Aw man, hope you have a better day/week soon. *hugs

So you discovered the magic of SAI, eh? :D I love that program, used it for about 4 years until I'm forced into an all mac institution though, so all I've got is photoshop now. ARGH. Any tips for lineart with photoshop?

For SAI, I imagine it'd be pretty easy to get a manga texture set up – just hm… have an airbrush at 100 percent opacity and (the other settings), and have the custom "manga" texture as the texture to it, and paint the texture on. Or you could always do the select>paintbucket>different layer deal.

    • I don't think photoshop lineart can be salvaged compared to SAI or OC. you just have to live with it ):

  • dA has been a real b*tch these days when it comes to submitting stuff, so your reaction fits in the group of normality. Try not to think so much about it, you made a wonderful work and all of your watchers are already aware of your new piece ;p

And welcome to the world of SAI! If you discover how on earth to make it not overload because of lack of RAM… share the secret. I reach the 90% memory quite fast… not good.

The best of lucks on your super secret manga project.

    • Ya I feel really obnoxious and narcissistic talking about stuff like that, but a lot of times my greed and ambition get the better of me lol

As for SAI, I haven't run out of memory yet! nor has it lagged so I assume I haven't run into that problem XD

  • Sai has been a saving grace for me when it comes to digital inking *had one too many instances of Painter crashing in the middle of something* D:! I believe you're able to apply textures to images in Sai also, but if you're thinking about screentones and those sort of goodies, why not give mangastudio a try :o?

    • I just meant the quality of digital brush strokes make the final line art look totally digital, and subtle ink texture is always the epitome of manga art to me ):
