Something I struggled with for a few days during my free time! I wanted to draw Blackbird and Veloce fighting in such a way that it looks somewhat like choreography/dancing. I spent a lot of time on adjusting the pose guidelines, but when I finally decided I can draw in the characters, I wasn’t happy with the poses anymore so I abandoned it ): It has enough detail to sort of show what I was going for though; I’m going to start from scratch try again when I have time later.

Veloce is more of a dance person than a music person~

  1. { Shaolin }

    No problem.

    A few examples would be:
    (Duilian straight sword-from): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obwkyjwZfkM

    (Spear vs. Empty hand form) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBUsw4YKfsM

    In the end straight sword forms tend to be more dramatic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz0zBLsg5CQ

    hopefully those vids have something worth noting and could be of use.

      thank you! I'll look at them :D

    • { Shaolin }

      Last one. Hopefully I’m not annoying you but—

      This one particular duilian form has more dynamic poses as well and body movements then the previous ones.

    • { Shilin }

      no they're very helpful XD they also remind me that I've completely forgotten about the good old chinese kungfu tv series which have a lot of these fight scenes.

    • { Shaolin }

      I'm glad that they helped. And you also can never go wrong with those good ol' classic Kung Fu movies like "Shaolin Verses Lama", "Five Fingers of Death", and "Eagles Claw".

  2. { Catriona }

    I'm not sure what you use for inspiration, but maybe try looking up some skating videos/pics of pairs/ice dance. The Grand Prix competition is happening so there should be some good stuff. :D /interestbias

    • { Shilin }

      that's true! I think figure skating would lean too far to the dance side, although right now the sketch is too far on the fight side insteadlmao

    • { Shaolin }

      If your looking for some sort of balance of synchronization with flow, overdramatic movements and weapons, it would most likely be seen in the two-persons set forms of contemporary wushu. There are rarely traditional kung fu two-man set forms which are ever recorded ( or even real and done correctly), but those forms are actually geared towards decimating instead of show.

      Just a suggestion…

      haha I have NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT…. '''''orz can you show me an example LOL

  3. YOOOOOOOOOOOO~

    Looks neat D:!
    I hate drawing dynamic poses in perspective XD
    Leave this version in peace and redraw clean lines on new one to see what to fix still – I can adjust 1 sketch in like 3-4 versions LOLAME D;
    But imho looks great so far ; 3 ;
    and regarding your dream : stop playing so much RO XD

    • { Shilin }

      haha I usually don't like to draw a picture more than once ): so I spend a lot of time fixing stuff LOL

  4. { Rei }

    Lovely as usual *w*;;;

  5. Very dynamic poses 8D!

    • { Shilin }

      that's actually what I don't like about it LOL. NOT DYNAMIC ENOUGH FOR ME
