I had a really hard time choosing an additional background element to toss into the picture, flowers water or chains, but then I realized the reason why everything I draw is so cluttered is because I don’t know when to stop adding shit and it looks mighty busy as is lmfao. I was doing line art for this originally but like 3 hours afterwards, I realized the lineart looked like shit and I really didnt want to continue. So I scribbled the rest on loosely, filled it with red and just used it as guidelines for painting lmao. This takes SO MUCH LESS TIME than painstakingly outlining all the ornaments on her boots and hair and shit, but I think–and friends agree–that my lined style is the prettier of the two lol ): A HEFTY PRICE MUST BE PAID TO MAKE THINGS ALL PRETTY AND ANIMU… I’ll probably try to give the colours a wash when I’m done to try to lighten up the grudgy feeling that it has now.
I recorded most of the process here, although there is a gap between the second video and the WIP I posted above comprised of a lot of bodypart cutting/free transforming lolol. I was going to record the entire process from start to finish but I realized anything beyond this point would just be me blending like a nut, and it’s going to probably take like 5 more videos or something so MAYBE IT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO DO THAT LMAO.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (: I finished my work early so I could do some CGing which I dearly missed.
I Livestreamed tonight and did the rough colours for this! I have no idea what to do with it now; I don’t like drawing line art, but finishing this without lines is going to kill me. I do hope to be able to finish this in time for v-day or something though, even though it’s totally gay
And I spent yesterday drawing weirin’s profile picture. Only Blackbird and Iriel left now LOL I am so relieved that I could still draw it in the same style as Veloce and Keri, which were done like 2 years ago or something. I hate her colours so much too LOL. PURPLE GOES WITH NOTHING and I had such limited choices because I already decided the shades of her outfit in the manga. The colour swatches I had at the side looked like distant light speckles so I decided to filter the shit out of the wip. I figured I’m bad at filtering so why not get some (indiscriminate) practice in!
And here’s a mess I made a few days ago. I supposed I should work on some of the chara designs for the next part of Blackbird even though I don’t really feel like it… because I’m not that crazy about drawing old people and animals, but I have to sooner or later ): I figured I should do the Chief’s cat form first and derive the human form from there to maybe, MAYBE make him look a little more distinguishable. But so far the human form looks like the king with a lot of hair so it’s not working LOL. And the animal form beast-humans take can change but not easily. They don’t grow larger over time, for example Meron’s cat form is as small as Iriel’s, because she prefers it that way. This chief, as you can see, prefers to be a huge tiger unicat!
On a random note, I’ve always had this HUGE pet peeve of watching young people play video games music, or “compose” or “improvise” piano music on places like youtube. The former is ok but the latter two just piss the shit off of me for pretty retarded reasons. I rarely ever watch these videos myself but once in a while I will get linked to one that is “impressive” or “popular”, and I get really annoyed because I can dissect the music by ear. By the time it finishes playing I would’ve figured out everything about it without extra hearings because it’s that shallow; yet people will like it because it sounds showy, nice, or both.
I am annoyed because I know I feel this way out of the elitist mentality in me: I can do what they can do (so can a lot of other people in fact, it takes no skill). Yet I can’t help but to look down on people who do this, and then get upset at the attention they reap because they’re fine with being shallow and I’m not. People will be marveling at these simple indulgences instead of listening to music that has even a slight bit more content in them. They make pop music look good!
The worst part about this is I am in the shoes of these showoffs when it comes to art, because what I do for art is basically what they do for music (LOL ANIMU VS REAL ARTSIES) Knowing this I still can’t forgive the fact that they take pride in being the frogs at the bottom of a well. MY DOUBLE STANDARD IS ASTROCIOUS ]: Sometimes I wish I hadn’t gone to university for music so I don’t feel so overconfident in this area

Trying to use colours I normally don’t/can’t use. I kind of like this 100% opacity brush business because I don’t get stuck blending obsessively, and I have to force myself to find the right colours instead of blending until I hit the right colours. I guess I tried too hard to make it soft and pretty and failed in the contrast department LIKE USUAL. Everytime I get so close to ctrl+L’ing the image to make them look better, but then I thought it’s just an unfinished sketch and I’ll never conquer my problems if I trick myself lol. I am ashamed to post this picture though after seeing minyi’s dbz keri sketch LMFAO

In other news my parents told me they bought me a new digital camera for christmas lmfao. I told my mom to not do it when she asked me if she could buy a camera for me, because not that I am terribly professional or take a LOT of photos or anything, so my current one (despite being a piece of shit) is good enough. I would rather use that money to buy something else higher on my priority list. Besides, I don’t trust their knowledge with digital cameras either because if I really were to buy a new one, I would want to buy a really good one because I’ll be using it for another what, 10 years LOL. So I kind of wish I told them which one I wanted instead LMFAO… but yeah aside from that CAN’T WAIT TO GET A NEW CAMERA ‘v’

I would be happy about it except I’m annoyed by EVERYTHING that’s been happening. I haven’t slept well for like a week due to stupid occurrences at night, people making stupid comments, and the DA upload system being dumb causing me to lose like half a day of self promotion for something I worked so hard on. I’m pretty begrudging when it comes to shit like this so now I feel like I must paint something else to make up for my misfortune, but I must get working on actual work before that ]: I hate the feeling on giving up unfinished business
But onto the pic itself! while drawing it I thought I would write a little story (that has nothing to do with Blackbird) to go along with the image, but in the end my inability to write and the fact that the focus of the story was like a tangent to the focus of the illustration caused me to scrap it. The story went something like, once upon a time there was an awesome city filled with awesome people who thought they were so awesome, that they could overthrow the gods. The gods finally got mad and sent someone down, and she wiped out the area from the map and guarded it forever and ever to remind humans of their humiliation and defeat.
I’m switching to SAI for my super secret manga project because photoshop lineart is balls. I drew half a speech balloon before becoming enraged with the brush quality… although SAI is much better, it still has no manga texture to it, at this stage anyways. I think it’s partially because of how I draw, too, but I’ll have to get around it because there’s no way I can draw this project traditionally ): At least digital illustration is very forgiving; I’ve already flipped the canvas 4-5 times and free transformed so many bodyparts lol
