Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (: I finished my work early so I could do some CGing which I dearly missed.
I Livestreamed tonight and did the rough colours for this! I have no idea what to do with it now; I don’t like drawing line art, but finishing this without lines is going to kill me. I do hope to be able to finish this in time for v-day or something though, even though it’s totally gay
And I spent yesterday drawing weirin’s profile picture. Only Blackbird and Iriel left now LOL I am so relieved that I could still draw it in the same style as Veloce and Keri, which were done like 2 years ago or something. I hate her colours so much too LOL. PURPLE GOES WITH NOTHING and I had such limited choices because I already decided the shades of her outfit in the manga. The colour swatches I had at the side looked like distant light speckles so I decided to filter the shit out of the wip. I figured I’m bad at filtering so why not get some (indiscriminate) practice in!
And here’s a mess I made a few days ago. I supposed I should work on some of the chara designs for the next part of Blackbird even though I don’t really feel like it… because I’m not that crazy about drawing old people and animals, but I have to sooner or later ): I figured I should do the Chief’s cat form first and derive the human form from there to maybe, MAYBE make him look a little more distinguishable. But so far the human form looks like the king with a lot of hair so it’s not working LOL. And the animal form beast-humans take can change but not easily. They don’t grow larger over time, for example Meron’s cat form is as small as Iriel’s, because she prefers it that way. This chief, as you can see, prefers to be a huge tiger unicat!
On a random note, I’ve always had this HUGE pet peeve of watching young people play video games music, or “compose” or “improvise” piano music on places like youtube. The former is ok but the latter two just piss the shit off of me for pretty retarded reasons. I rarely ever watch these videos myself but once in a while I will get linked to one that is “impressive” or “popular”, and I get really annoyed because I can dissect the music by ear. By the time it finishes playing I would’ve figured out everything about it without extra hearings because it’s that shallow; yet people will like it because it sounds showy, nice, or both.
I am annoyed because I know I feel this way out of the elitist mentality in me: I can do what they can do (so can a lot of other people in fact, it takes no skill). Yet I can’t help but to look down on people who do this, and then get upset at the attention they reap because they’re fine with being shallow and I’m not. People will be marveling at these simple indulgences instead of listening to music that has even a slight bit more content in them. They make pop music look good!
The worst part about this is I am in the shoes of these showoffs when it comes to art, because what I do for art is basically what they do for music (LOL ANIMU VS REAL ARTSIES) Knowing this I still can’t forgive the fact that they take pride in being the frogs at the bottom of a well. MY DOUBLE STANDARD IS ASTROCIOUS ]: Sometimes I wish I hadn’t gone to university for music so I don’t feel so overconfident in this area
a documentary that is long, cheesy and probably contains unreliable info, but hits all the right spots to win my heart. I’ll be stealing honouring the concepts of perfection vs artistry in Blackbird :D

I went to two christmas gatherings of old high school friends and they were fun. It’s so sad I don’t get together with any of my college friends because I judge too much to make good friends in college HAHAH. We watched Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and I didn’t like it much. None of the characters were likeable except for the cheshire cat and the march rabbit, the plot was a pretty bad attempt at being serious and there was no logic anywhere… And we went to see some fun lights at waterloo, where we acted like 13 year old RETARDS taking ridiculous photos with the lights LOL. Some of the lights were so crooked and weird; there was a yellow charmander and a pokeball that was not round, plus REALLY CREEPY santas and elves moving slowly scaring the shit out of us.

We also played NY chase, where 4 of our detectives failed MISERABLY to catch the thief… apparently an engineer, an archeologist and two artists don’t make a very good team of detectives
In other news I’m finally past the halfway point on the super secret manga YAYYYY! I’m beginning to not like the style I worked with for this project but I have to at least finish it first before I can change anything about it in order to be consistent. I’ve almost gotten all of my responsibilities out of the way, but more just keep coming and taking up all my time ): am sad

I was talking about a portfolio I made in portfolio class in grade 12 (2004) with a friend, and decided to dig it out to look at it again. My mom crammed a lot of other crap into the case but I looked mostly at the pages and pages of life drawing that we did for the class. It was a lot of fun but MAN I SUCKED SO HARD AT IT LOL. most of them looked like bad animu because that was the extent of my artistic abilities. It wasn’t a real art class, so I received very little instructions about how life drawing should be done or what one should look out for on these drawings. I had absolutely no idea what the fuck people meant when they talked about form, negative space, tones, and other fancy art terms and no one explained it to me so it almost was a huge waste of time. I also doodled a gay anime face next to like every single figure I drew HAHAHA THEY’RE AS EMBARRASSING AS THE FIGURE DRAWING THEMSELVES. In the end I was rejected by the school, and only 2 people got rejected out of the 22 in our class that applied. At the time I thought it was most likely because I was passing out on the table when my appointment at 8am was late by like 2.5 hours (this helper came over and told me to not do that and the interviewer was unimpressed), but now that I look at the pieces, they were just bad LMAO

And CD cover commission wip! When was the last time I CGed LOL. I am getting the craving to draw Blackbird stuff again; I suddenly want to CG lots and lots of poster style artworks for Blackbird but ahhhh so much work to doooo
I miss Reason so much ): writing a song in Sibelius and listening to the midi playback is totally destroying my enjoyment of composition…
My friend started using tumblr again and at first glance, it was pretty attractive because it’s simple, to the point and very classy. It also links nicely to other sites and has some sort of a community. So after some consideration I made one and then waste a whole day making a nice layout for it. I’ve just been test driving it for the past few days to see if I like it and if I should move completely. But I still miss this blog ): I have more freedom here to do whatever I want, and best of all I have all the entries in my hands–well, servers. So I don’t know what I should do ):
So far the pros of staying here is:
Complete control over everything: layout, entries, plugins
Long-entry-friendly! While you can still post photos in text entries, actual photo-posts only allow 1 photo per post. Same for youtube videos
Comment-friendly. I could use disqus for tumblr but I can’t change the comment layout, and the comment count cannot be displayed on homepage. I like my comment page layout ):
I already blogged here for a few years, moving is a hassle
This blog is nicely integrated into my site, so it’s some sort of an incentive for visitors for my site to read the blog and vice versa.
The pros of tumblr is:
much easier for tumblr users to follow my blog. A standalone blog without a community only works well for very famous/popular people (eg I would use lj but aside from the huge userbase, lj sucks balls for what I want out of a blog)
different types of posts allow entry layouts to be stylized and look awesome
If I want to link entries to twitter, I don’t have to run to tinyurl to make a short url for it
STYLISH
I think what I want out of blogs is basically control, aesthetics and community… this blog has control and aesthetics, while tumblr has aesthetics and MAY have community. but I wouldn’t be surprised if I realize later that I made tumblr because I enjoy figuring out codes and making layouts LOL. I dunno we’ll see after a week or two of test use!
